Known for their line of smart lighting solutions, Philips Hue announced this week they’re getting into the home security arena with a new Philips Hue Secure line of products.
The anchor of the Philips Hue Secure lineup is a 1080p HD camera with night vision that’s suitable for indoor or outdoor use. It’s available as wired ($199.99USD) or wireless ($249.99USD) and comes in either black or white. The cameras have standard features like two-way talk, the ability to recognize if a notification is a person, pet or package and end-to-end encryption.
Along with the base cameras, they’re releasing a Hue Secure floodlight camera ($349.99USD) specifically for outdoor use. It can trigger light alarms, which illuminates a large area in any colour you select via the Philips Hue app. It comes in black only.
The Hue Secure contact sensor (available in either black or white) can be mounted to doors, windows and cabinets and will trigger a real-time notification when it’s opened or closed. What I find most intriguing about this product is that it can control your Philips Hue lights and bulbs so you could set it to turn on your bedroom lamp when you open your door or turn it off when you shut your door. The Philips Hue Secure contact sensor is $39.99USD for a 1-pack or $69.99USD for a 2-pack.
To control the new Hue Secure products, the Philips Hue app is being updated with a new Security Center feature. It will allow you to personalize your camera settings, manually set off light alarms, create blackout and activity zones and much more.
Like Philips Hue lights, the Philips Hue Bridge is required to control Hue Secure products. There will also be a 30-day Basic or 60-day Plus subscription required for storing video from the cameras and opening up different features. These run $3.99USD per camera per month for the Basic Plan (or $39.99USD per year) and $9.99USD per camera per month for the Plus Plan (or $99.99USD per year).
All Philips Hue Secure products are set for a Fall 2023 release except for the floodlight camera, which will be released in early 2024. There is no word on if these will be available in Canada at the same time or what they will cost here.
