The best Christmas movies are ones you can watch over and over again every year. But if you’re tired of your old VHS or DVD copies or can’t easily find them on to stream anywhere, adding them to your 4K Blu-ray collection is a must.
Here are five Christmas movies you should add to your 4K UHD Blu-ray collection this season.
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)
Directed by Frank Capra and starring James Stewart, It’s a Wonderful Life is probably the biggest Christmas movie of all-time.
Whether you’ve seen it multiple times or are watching it for the first time, the 4K UHD Blu-ray for It’s a Wonderful Life will blow you away. The 4K transfer has been handled to the highest standard and the black and white picture looks absolutely stunning. The Dolby TrueHD mono audio track also sounds great.
Special features on the 4K UHD Blu-ray for It’s a Wonderful Life include three new featurettes and a colourized version of the film on a separate Blu-ray disc. A digital copy of the film is included as well.
A Christmas Story (1983)
Set in the 1950s, A Christmas Story delivers so many excellent moments that it’s gradually become a holiday classic over the years. There’s the famous Leg Lamp and the soap in the mouth scene, and of course the line “You’ll shoot your eye out!” It’s perfect!
The 4K Blu-ray for A Christmas Story looks and sounds great, and if you’re a fan there’s no question you want this in your collection. Special features from previous releases, including audio commentary with director Bob Clark and star Peter Billingsley, are all included along with a Blu-ray and digital copy of the movie.
Scrooged (1988)
A retelling of Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol, Scrooged is one of Bill Murray’s best roles and should be a bigger holiday classic than it is.

The 4K Blu-ray for Scrooged was only released in early November but it’s already won over fans with its excellent 4K Dolby Vision transfer and DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio mix.
Special features on the 4K UHD Blu-ray release include audio commentary with director Richard Donner and multiple featurettes. There’s also a Blu-ray copy of the movie included.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
Possibly one of the most quoted Christmas movies of all time, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is an annual viewing tradition for many. It’s hilarious, but also has a lot of heart to it (the attic scene still brings tears to our eyes). Since Christmas Vacation is not available to watch on any subscription streaming service it should be added to your 4K Blu-ray collection year.
The 4K UHD Blu-ray transfer for Christmas Vacation looks great and is probably the best quality we’re ever going to see the movie in. Special features are lacking, with only the trailer and a Blu-ray copy of the movie included, but we’re okay with that as it’s the movie itself we care about.
Elf (2003)
Can you believe Elf is already 20 years old!? To celebrate the anniversary this year Warner Bros. has released it on 4K Blu-ray for the first time and it’s truly a gift to fans.
The 4K transfer help the colours in Elf pop off the screen (especially the scenes at the beginning in the North Pole). The DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio track is also glorious, noticeably on Zooey Deschanel’s singing voice.
The Elf 4K Blu-ray is loaded with special features from the previous Blu-ray release, including separate audio commentary tracks with Will Ferrell and director Jon Favreau. There’s also ‘Elf Karaoke’ and multiple featurettes. A regular Blu-ray and digital copy of the movie are included as well.
