If you’re looking to give the gift of movies this holiday season, there are a lot of sweet 4K Blu-ray options to choose from no matter the taste of the person you’re shopping for.
Besides the movies themselves, the recommendations on our 4K Blu-ray holiday gift guide all have the best picture and sound along with a good amount of special features.
Here is our 4K Blu-ray holiday gift guide.
New classics
Is it too early to call Barbie and Oppenheimer classics? These two movies helped keep Hollywood going this year and their respective 4K Blu-ray releases are truly stunning. They could even help get more people into the world of 4K Blu-ray so they definitely deserve a spot on this list.
Some other newer classics we recommend on 4K Blu-ray include Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Interstellar and The Revenant.
Classic classics
Paramount recently released Titanic on 4K Blu-ray and if you haven’t watched the film at home in a long time, it’s a whole new experience. It’s also packed with features, including a few new ones, that will make any Titanic fan happy.
Rebel Without a Cause, The Maltese Falcon and Cool Hand Luke were also released on 4K Blu-ray recently by Warner Bros. Each of these classic titles have been given new life in 4K and are a joy to revisit.
Goodfellas and Do the Right Thing are both excellent on 4K Blu-ray, too. Add the 4K Blu-ray release of The Warriors from Arrow Video and this is the perfect New York City triple feature.
Action movies
No one does action quite like Tom Cruise and two of his more recent films are just mind-blowing on 4K Blu-ray. We’re talking Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Top Gun: Maverick of course. These titles should be in everyone’s collections in order to show off how great 4K Blu-ray looks and sounds when friends and family visit.
Fans of the Transformers movies will love the Transformers Limited Edition Steelbook 6-Movie Collection. This set includes Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: The Last Knight and Bumblebee all on 4K Blu-ray and packaged individually in Steelbooks within the box set.
While Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is not included in the box set, it’s also one to get on 4K Blu-ray for fans.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and yes, even Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are all worthwhile 4K Blu-ray releases as well.
Horror movies
Classic horror movies like The Exorcist and Rosemary’s Baby both hit 4K Blu-ray this year and gifting them will make the horror buff on your list extremely happy. The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection is also highly recommended. It includes Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho and The Birds all remastered on 4K.
Criterion released a beautiful 4K Blu-ray for The Others back in October as well as David Cronenberg’s Videodrome.
The Resident Evil 6-movie, 12-disc limited edition 4K Blu-ray Steelbook set is an excellent choice for fans of the series. It includes all the original Resident Evil movies individually on Steelbooks within the box set.
If you’re shopping for newer horror movies on 4K Blu-ray, the Halloween Trilogy, which includes Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, is a great choice as are Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Nope.
A more controversial recent horror movie choice, The Exorcist: Believer arrives on 4K Blu-ray on December 19 and is actually a lot better than most give it credit for. The Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound mix is a real highlight of this release.
Animated movies
Animated films look spectacular on 4K Blu-ray and a few that recently came out that are sure to make the people on your list happy include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Super Mario Bros. The Movie and the Steelbook release for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
Some Pixar classics like Toy Story, Cars and Ratatouille, along with Disney titles like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King are also great 4K Blu-ray animated films to gift.
Holiday movies
We recently covered these Christmas movies to get on 4K Blu-ray, but National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf, Scrooged, It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story can also make great gifts.
