- Crypto traders will be watching Ethereum as last week showed a significant rally. Some suggest we may see further reaction of the ‘2nd place’ cryptocurrency, stemming from the upcoming Bitcoin halving, set for mid-April.
- After having a noticeable effect on the reach and profit of the Super Bowl, it’s speculated that the Australian leg of Taylor Swift’s current tour may generate around $1.2 billion in economic value to the Melbourne area alone! A shame Taylor Swift stocks are not something you can buy. It seems like everything she touches turns to gold.
Monday, February 19
- Family Day (parts of Canada): Family Day is not a federal holiday, but it is a stat holiday in Ontario. This means the Toronto Stock Exchange will be closed.
- Presidents’ Day (U.S.): American stock exchanges will be closed.
Tuesday, February 20
- Canadian Consumer Price Index – 8:30 a.m.: There are four sets of data released, some monthly and some annual. A leading indicator of inflation.
Wednesday, February 21
- U.S. Federal Open Market Committee Meeting Minutes Release – 2 p.m.: A record of the most recent meeting and the members’ sentiments that led to the vote on where to set the interest rate.
Thursday, February 22
- French & German PMI – 3:15 -3:30 a.m.: Purchasing Managers’ Index for two of the European Union’s biggest economies, France and Germany. As industry tends to react quickly to economic changes, this data can be a valuable leading indicator of economic health and inflation.
- UK PMI – 4:30 a.m.: British Purchasing Managers’ Index will be an indicator of business conditions and overall economic health in the United Kingdom.
- U.S. Unemployment Claims – 8:30 a.m.: The number of new unemployment claims from the previous week.
- U.S. PMI – 9:45 a.m.: American Purchasing Managers’ Index shows how business in the United States is rating the overall conditions and is a leading indicator of economic health and inflation.
