Oppenheimer was the big winner at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday night taking home a total of seven awards, including Best Director and Best Picture.
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the night got off to a cringy start when he called out Greta Gerwig for not being nominated for Best Director during his monologue before suggesting to Ryan Gosling they go camping together without their wives because Gosling was so “hot”.
People on X weren’t too happy with his hosting, with one post saying he was “about as funny as thrush” and another saying his jokes from the 2023 Oscars were better.
Early awards handed out included Da’Vine Joy Randolph winning Best Support Actress for The Holdovers and The Boy and the Heron winning Best Animated Feature.
Cillian Murphy won the Oscar for Best Actor for Oppenheimer, becoming the first Irish-born actor to win the award, while Robert Downey Jr. picked up his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Oppenheimer.
Best Actress went to Emma Stone for Poor Things, marking her second Best Actress Oscar win. Poor Things picked up a total of four Oscars.
The Zone of Interest took home three Oscars, including Best International Feature, while Barbie, Anatomy of a Fall, American Fiction, and The Holdovers all took home a single award each. Killers of the Flower Moon was completely snubbed.
In one of the funnier moments of the night, John Cena presented the Best Costume Design award almost totally naked (his private bits were covered with the envelope).
Ryan Gosling’s performance for the nominated song ‘I’m Just Ken’ from Barbie was the big highlight of the night, but the award for Best Original Song ultimately went to Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’, also from Barbie.
