Tuesday, March 19
- Canadian Consumer Price Index – 8:30 a.m.: There are four sets of data released, some monthly and some annual. A leading indicator of inflation.
- U.S. New Building Permits – 8:30 a.m.: The number of new building permits approved in the previous month. An indication of the real estate and housing market’s trajectory.
Wednesday, March 20
- U.S. Interest Rate – 2 p.m.: The Federal Reserve releases its decision on whether to keep the interest rate where it is or to change it.
- U.S. FOMC Economic Projections And Press Conference – 2 p.m.: A press conference and explanation of the Fed’s monetary policy decisions, including the interest rate decision.
Thursday, March 21
- French & German PMI – 4:15 – 4:30 a.m.: Purchasing Managers’ Index for two of the European Union’s biggest economies, France and Germany. As industry tends to react quickly to economic changes, this data can be a valuable leading indicator of economic health and inflation.
- UK PMI – 5:30 a.m.: British Purchasing Managers’ Index will be an indicator of business conditions and overall economic health in the United Kingdom.
- UK Interest Rate & Monetary Policy Statement – 8 a.m.: Interest rate and monetary policy decisions are released by the Bank of England. Obviously these decisions affect lending rates and inflationary matters across many sectors.
- U.S. Unemployment Claims – 8:30 a.m.: The number of new unemployment claims from the previous week.
- U.S. PMI – 9:45 a.m.: American Purchasing Managers’ Index shows how business in the United States is rating the overall conditions and is a leading indicator of economic health and inflation.
Friday, March 22
- UK Retail Sales – 3 a.m.: The relative change in overall retail sales, month over month. This is a glimpse into the ground level state of consumer’s purchasing habits, and tends to indicate overall health of the economy.
- U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Speech – 9 a.m.: Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is set to speak at an event in Washington DC. Often speeches by high level politicians and central bank members can give clues toward future policy decisions and current sentiment.
