Filmmaker John Waters, aka the “Pope of Trash” and “King of Filth”, is returning to Toronto in May to speak at an event that showcases his 35-year career.
Flurry of Filth: A John Waters Retrospective runs from May 10 – 18 at the Paradise Cinema on Bloor St. Waters will be attending a special screening of his 1998 film Pecker, starring Edward Furlong and Christina Ricci, on May 18.
Waters will be doing live commentary during the screening and a special Q&A afterwards for VIP ticket holders.

Tickets to the event start at $125 and go on sale on Monday, April 1 at 12 p.m. at paradiseonbloor.com.
Making a name for himself with Pink Flamingos in 1972, in which star Divine eats actual dog feces, Waters continued making lower budget “cult” films until 1988 when he wrote and directed the musical-comedy Hairspray.

He followed up Hairspray with the Johnny Depp movie Cry-Baby in 1990. He then went on to make Serial Mom (1994) with Kathleen Turner, the aforementioned Pecker (1998), Cecil B. Demented (2000) with Melanie Griffith and Stephen Dorff, and A Dirty Shame (2004) with Johnny Knoxville and Selma Blair.
Waters has also appeared in many movies and TV shows, including an episode of The Simpsons, in which he played himself, and the 2007 remake of Hairspray with John Travolta. He’s also an accomplished photographer, artist and writer.
