Spring for Canadians is a time of dusting off golf clubs and bringing them out of hibernation. However, for the PGA Tour elite, who’ve already been active all year, spring brings out the sport’s most prestigious challenge: the Masters.
But what is the Masters?
The iconic tournament has been played since 1934 at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. For the first five tournaments the event was known as the Augusta National Invitational Tournament until it was renamed in 1940 and became the Masters.
This match-up always occurs during the first full week of April and is the first of four major PGA tournaments featuring the world’s best golf talent.

Not only does the Masters feature the greatest international golfers, but it also invites back every active golfer who has won the tournament in previous years. A single Masters victory earns the golfer access to the event for life.
The tournament, which runs from Thursday, April 11 to Sunday, April 14 this year, also carries prestige simply because of a jacket, a green jacket to be exact.
Sunday’s winner will leave the 18th hole a little warmer than when they arrived as they’ll be sporting the best visual of golfing success: the very distinguished green blazer.
Where you can watch the Masters
Full coverage of the tournament will air on TSN, TSN.ca, and TSN+ starting on Thursday, April 11. Saturday and Sunday’s action—the third and fourth finishing rounds—will have more streaming options with play also available on CTV, CTV.ca, and CTV apps.
Why you should watch the Masters
If you want to start following this sport but are feeling lost between the holes, this weekend is the perfect time to tee off. The Masters will introduce you to the biggest names in golf at the moment, such as first ranked Scottie Scheffler, Tiger Woods, and Rory McIlroy (you can also catch some Canadian golfers at the tournament, including Mike Weir and Adam Hadwin).
