The Missed List is a roundup of movies and TV shows you should have watched at home last month but probably didn’t.
These are the April 2024 home releases we highly recommend checking out if you missed them.
Humane (VOD)
Thanks to a great script by Michael Sparaga (United We Fan, Servitude), Caitlin Cronenberg’s Humane is far more accessible to a larger audience than the films of her father and brother. The performances from stars Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, and Enrico Colantoni are all extraordinary, and the overall idea of having to kill off 20 per cent of the population will haunt you long after the credits roll. Humane is currently available on VOD platforms in Canada.
Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut (Netflix Canada)
As someone who suffers from chronic stomach issues, I found the documentary Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut to be quite entertaining while also offering new insights into gut health. It doesn’t hit you over the head to eat healthier, but instead demonstrates how everyone’s guts work differently. Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut premiered on Netflix Canada on April 26.
Monkey Man (VOD)
Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man is an action-packed revenge film with a lot of underlying heart. Patel, who also stars, proves his potential as both a director and an action star, and it’ll be interesting to see what he does next. Monkey Man is available on VOD platforms in Canada.
Late Night with the Devil (Shudder)
Late Night with the Devil plays out exactly like an episode of a late night talk show from the ‘70s and it’s executed so well that it feels authentic. David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man, Dune) absolutely owns the role as the talk show host, while Ingrid Torelli’s portrayal of a possessed child is one of the creepiest and most subtle performances to ever grace the screen. Late Night with the Devil arrived on Shudder on April 19.
Anyone But You (Crave)
If you’re looking for a romcom to enjoy, Anyone But You is a surprisingly great addition to the genre. Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell play off each other perfectly, and both deliver a good amount of laughs while making you care for their characters. As long as you remember this is a silly romcom you’ll enjoy it. Anyone But You debuted on Crave on April 26.
