Disney+ Canada quietly added the sci-fi movie The Creator to the service this week in what appears to be a poor effort to compete against Netflix’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire.
Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla) and starring John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney and Ken Watanabe, The Creator is about a futuristic war between humans and robots with artificial intelligence.

The film received mixed reviews when it was released in theatres back in October with one critic calling it a “a true vision” while another said “it’s a mishmash of other movies with not much to say on its own.”
Overall it’s rated “Fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes with a 66% critics score and a 76% audience score. On the IMDb it has a 6.8 out of 10 based on over 94,000 ratings.
The movie grossed over $104 million on an estimated budget of $80 million, making it more of a success for Disney than a lot of their big tentpole releases this year (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny reportedly lost $100 million and The Marvels became the lowest-grossing MCU film).
Why Disney+ Canada didn’t promote the streaming release of The Creator is a bit of a head scratcher (it wasn’t on their December 2023 release schedule and they have no mention it on social media). If you’re a sci-fi fan though it’s definitely worth a watch over the holidays.
The Creator is available to watch now on Disney+ Canada and is also available on 4K Blu-ray from Amazon for $35.94.
