The Missed List is a roundup of movies and TV shows you should have watched at home last month but probably didn’t.
These are the November 2023 home releases we highly recommend checking out if you missed them.
Fingernails (Apple TV+)
If you’re a fan of movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Being John Malkovich, you are most likely going to enjoy Fingernails. Starring Jessie Buckley, Riz Ahmed and Jeremy Allen White, the film almost feels like an extended Black Mirror episode where couples have their fingernails tested to find out if they’ve found true love. It’s an interesting watch and that will leave you thinking. Fingernails premiered on Apple TV+ on November 3.
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix Canada)
Bringing over the same cast from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World to voice the characters in the animated Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was a great idea as you instantly connect to their cartoon counterparts. The storyline does go in a different direction, which is a good thing, but still has the style and feeling that made the movie so much fun. Scott Pilgrim Takes off premiered on Netflix Canada on November 17.
Quiz Lady (Disney+ Canada)
Quiz Lady is a fun, enjoyable movie about a smart, but very anxious woman (Awkwafina) who is persuaded by her sister (Sandra Oh) to go on a game show in order to win money to save their kidnapped dog. Will Ferrell plays the game show host while Jason Schwartzman is the smarmy co-contestant she’s up against. Quiz Lady premiered on Disney+ Canada on November 3.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV+)
Set in the world of Godzilla, King Kong and other Titans, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is a huge production that ties into the more recent films while giving the audience a lot of backstory about who Monarch are and how they came to be. Also neat is that father and son Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell play the same character in different times. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiered on Apple TV+ on November 17. New episodes air on Fridays until January 12, 2024.
Asteroid City (Prime Video Canada)
Asteroid City is a typical Wes Anderson style film, but is a lot more watchable than his last few. The movie jumps back and forth between ‘Asteroid City’, which is the play within the movie, and the production of the play. Anderson has one of his biggest casts with this movie with the likes of Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Maya Hawke, Rupert Friend, Jeffrey Wright, Steve Carell, Hope Davis, Tilda Swinton, and of course Jason Schwartzman all appearing. Asteroid City debuted on Prime Video Canada on November 3.
