LEGO Fortnite is now available to play and you might be shocked (or happy) to learn that it’s not really Fortnite at all, but a separate, non-Battle Royale game that you can play from within Fortnite.
Since Fortnite was just rated T for Teens in November, this is EPIC Games’ way of keeping the younger crowd glued to their screens as it’s rated Everyone 10+.
So, what is LEGO Fortnite then? It’s a survival, open world, building game, but with LEGO characters and pieces. If you took Minecraft, Zelda and Roblox and blended them up inside of Fortnite, this is what would probably come from it.
Here’s how EPIC Games describes it:
Explore vast, open worlds where the magic of LEGO building and Fortnite collide.
Collect food and resources, craft items, build shelter and battle enemies solo or team up with up to seven friends.
Get creative in building and customizing your ultimate home base using LEGO elements collected from the world around you, then recruit villagers to gather materials and help survive the night. Gear up and drop into deep caves in search of rare resources and hidden areas.
Find the ultimate survival crafting LEGO adventure in Fortnite! The journey is only just beginning with new world building, gameplay features, and more LEGO Style Outfits arriving in updates starting early 2024.
How to load LEGO Fortnite
LEGO Fortnite is available through the Discover screen within Fortnite in the By Epic section. You’ll be prompted to create a new world when you first play (like Minecraft). Then you’ll need to explore and gather resources to make tools and build structures.
First reactions
First day reactions seem to be mostly positive online with the BBC calling it a “Minecraft rival“, streamers saying it’s awesome, and some shocked how big the game is considering it’s inside of another game. Time will tell if it holds the hype or fizzles out, but so far it seems like it’s here to stay.
