Cineplex is bringing back 1999 prices every Tuesday in February by offering movie tickets for $5 and a small bag of popcorn for $5.
That’s right, the last time tickets were this cheap was 25 years ago, when movies like The Matrix, Fight Club and The Phantom Menace were all the rage.

“We’re taking Tuesday pricing back to the late nineties when Canadians were running to see iconic movies,” Sara Moore, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer for Cineplex said in a release.
“As the country’s top entertainment destination, we are delighted to give Canadians more reasons to come in from the cold to experience movie magic with friends and family this February.”
The $5 movie ticket offer is for general admission tickets only. Tickets purchased online will still be charged Cineplex’s extremely stupid online booking fee up to $1.50 per ticket, plus tax.
Unfortunately the selection of movies coming to theatres in February is not intriguing enough for us to leave the house.
Argyle, starring Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Sam Rockwell, opens today, February 2, before it makes its way to Apple TV+ at a later date. It’s currently rated rotten on Rotten Tomatoes with a 36% critics score.
On February 16, the new superhero movie Madame Web hits theatres. Starring Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts and Adam Scott, Madame Web is a standalone Sony Marvel movie that exists in the Spider-Man and Venom universe. Early test screenings last year appeared to be positive, but the trailer (below) is a bit cringe.
Most of the other movies currently playing in theatres are already available to watch at home on VOD platforms, like Night Swim, Wonka and The Beekeeper.
Will you consider heading to a theatre this month to take up the Tuesday $5 movie ticket offer? Tell us in the comments below.
