The Weather Network has released their spring 2024 forecast for Canada, and just like winter, it’s looking a bit all over the place for most of the country.
“We expect this spring will feature profound mood swings across Canada as periods of late winter-like weather interrupt our journey towards consistent warm weather. However, we expect that warmer-than-normal temperatures will outduel the cold weather for most Canadians this spring,” said Chris Scott, Chief Meteorologist with The Weather Network.
Here’s what weather you can expect across the country for March, April, and May, according to The Weather Network.
Ontario & Quebec
After early spring-like weather in February, The Weather Network says we can expect a mix of warmer-than-normal temperatures in Ontario and Quebec with periods of colder-than-normal temperatures. There’s also a risk of late winter weather and a late season frost.
British Columbia
The Weather Network says that British Columbia can expect “warmer-than-normal temperatures and drier-than-normal conditions.” This could mean a risk for an early start to the wildfire season.
The Prairies
Above average temperatures are expected across the Prairies this spring with periods of “colder-than-normal temperatures and a few high-impact late winter events.” Drought is also a concern for some parts, and risk of wildfires later in the season, especially for Alberta, is also possible.
Atlantic Canada
Atlantic Canada can expect near-normal temperatures and precipitation, with the chance of late winter storms, The Weather Network says. There’s also an active storm track through March and possibly into April.
Northern Canada
Expect warmer temperatures in Northern Canada this spring, including the Yukon and most of the Northwest Territories. Near-normal temperatures are expected for western parts of Nunavut.
