The Missed List is a roundup of movies and TV shows you should have watched at home last month but probably didn’t.
These are the February 2024 home releases we highly recommend checking out if you missed them.
Columbia Classics Vol. 4 (4K Blu-ray)
To celebrate Columbia Pictures turning 100, Sony Home Entertainment released a new collection of classic titles last month in a beautiful 4K Blu-ray box set.
The Columbia Classics Vol. 4 4K Blu-ray set includes His Girl Friday (1940), Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967), Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Starman (1984), Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and Punch-Drunk Love (2002). All the films have been remastered in 4K and look absolutely stunning. Except for His Girl Friday, all titles have new Dolby Atmos sound mixes, and all include a good amount of special features. The collection also comes with an 80-page book featuring rare photos and essays. The Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Volume 4 was released on February 13. You can purchase it on Amazon.
Upgraded (Prime Video Canada)
Released right before Valentine’s Day, Upgraded feels a bit like The Devil Wears Prada set in the art world. It’s a very charming and fun movie that offers way more com than rom, and Camila Mendes, Marisa Tomei and Lena Olin are all excellent to watch in it. Upgraded premiered on Prime Video Canada on February 9.
The Marvels (Disney+ Canada)
Forget the hate that surrounded The Marvels during its theatrical run as it’s one of the more exciting MCU movies that’s been released recently. Bringing together Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Ms. Marvel (Canadian actress Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), The Marvels is action-packed, super funny, and really gets the vibe of some of the earlier Marvel movies. The Marvels arrived on Disney+ Canada on February 7.
Footloose (4K Blu-ray)
The movie that made Kevin Bacon a star, 1984’s Footloose got the 4K Blu-ray treatment from Paramount Home Entertainment last month and for those that have never seen it, this is the best way to introduce yourself to it! The remastered 4K transfer looks great, and the 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound track gives new life to the music in the film. Footloose was released on 4K Blu-ray on February 13. You can purchase it on Amazon.
The Holdovers (Prime Video Canada)
Alexander Payne’s Oscar-nominated film The Holdovers, starring Paul Giamatti, landed in the second spot on our Best Movies of 2023 list and we’d be very surprised if Giamatti doesn’t take home the Best Actor award for it. If you’re a fan of movies like Wonder Boys and Harold and Maude, this is one you definitely need to watch. The Holdovers debuted on Prime Video Canada on February 24.
