Dessert plates sold at Anthropologie have been recalled by Health Canada over a chemical hazard risk.
The recall involves the Elin Dessert Plates that are lilac in colour with orange mushroom, moth, and fern motifs. Health Canada has determined that they contain cadmium in excess of allowable limits.
Cadmium is highly toxic and has a range of serious health effects associated with it, especially to children, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, and effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system.
In extreme cases there have been deaths associated with it, according to Health Canada.
The plates measure 21 cm (8.25 inches) in diameter and have scalloped edges. The words “by ANTHROPOLOGIE” are written on the back of plate. They were sold between June 2022 and February 2024 and with a retail price of $16.
No other Elin Dessert Plates are subject to the recall.
What you should do
Health Canada says that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled plates and dispose of them in regular household garbage.
