Health Canada has issued a recall notice for six Kopi Thyme brand sauces and soup bases over the potential presence of dangerous bacteria.
The following products from the Ontario-based company are affected under the recall:
- Ipoh Laksa – Curry Noodle Soup Base (250mL)
- UPC: 6 28634 62103 5
- All Best Before dates up to and including 10/31/2024
- Kam Heong – Golden Fragrance Stir Fry Sauce (250mL)
- UPC: 6 28634 62106 6
- All Best Before dates up to and including 12/29/2024
- Kari Ayam – Malaysian Style Aromatic Curry Paste (250mL)
- UPC: 6 28634 62104 2
- All Best Before dates up to and including 09/25/2024
- Nyonya Laska – Curry Noodle Soup Base (250mL)
- UPC: 6 28634 62108 0
- All Best Before dates up to and including 09/25/2024
- Prawn Curry – Creamy Prawn Curry Paste (250mL)
- UPC: 6 28634 62105 9
- All Best Before dates up to and including 11/22/2024
- Sayur Lodeh – Turmeric Stew Paste (250mL)
- UPC: 6 28634 62107 3
- All Best Before dates up to and including 11/22/2024
The products were sold online as well as in Ontario, BC, Saskatchewan and possibly other provinces and territories.
Health Canada issued the recall because the products “may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum.”
According to the World Health Organization, “botulinum toxins block nerve functions and can lead to respiratory and muscular paralysis.”
What you should do with the recalled products
If you have any of the recalled products Health Canada says to not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute them and to throw them out or return them to the location they were bought.
Contact your healthcare provider if you think you have gotten sick from any of the products.
