Apple has agreed to pay a settlement of between $11,137,500 and $14,427,500 in an iPhone class action lawsuit in Canada over power management issues caused by an iOS update.
Select iPhone owners in Canada affected over the update, which caused poor battery performance and the iPhones to “prematurely age, degrade and shut down unexpectedly”, could get money if the settlement is approved.
The following iPhones and iOS configurations are included in the class action lawsuit:
- iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, or SE with iOS version 10.2.1 or later
- iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with iOS version 11.2 or later
You must have owned one of the devices and installed or downloaded the version of iOS before December 21, 2017 in order to qualify.
Next steps
More information will be posted with a link to submit a claim if the settlement is approved on January 29, 2024.
If you want to opt-out of the iPhone class action lawsuit in order to “preserve your right to sue Apple on your own over the claims”, you only have until January 10 to submit an opt-out form.
The exact payout amount over the class action lawsuit will be determined by how many claims are submitted.
